The Nikon D5300 has been unveiled as the company’s latest DSLR camera, complete with Wi-Fi connectivity and a 24.2-megapixel sensor.
Although it’s the first Nikon DX-format DSLR to feature Wi-Fi and GPS technology, Nikon hasn’t scrimped on the other features of the D5300.
Nikon D5300 Features
The Nikon D5300 has a new 24.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor with the optical low pass filter (OLPF) removed to improve clarity and detail in images. It has a wide ISO range of 100 – 12,800 and is even expandable to ISO 25,600.
Offering the Nikon EXPEED 4 image processing engine, the Nikon D5300 also has a 39-point AF system that claims to accurately track subjects.
The DSLR is capable of capturing images at a 5fps rate, which can all be viewed via the D5300’s 3.2-inch vari-angle LCD screen with a dot count of 1,037,000.
Nikon has boosted the number of Creative Effect modes to 9 with the addition of HDR painting and Toy Camera modes. The Nikon D5300 can also automatically create HDR images for high contract scenarios by taking two images with different exposures and layering them to create one image with a wider range of colour tones.
Featuring built-in Wi-Fi, the Nikon D5300 can transmit images and videos to any iOS and Android smartphone or tablet to upload to Facebook or your chosen social network. The Wi-Fi also enables the smartphone or tablet to act as a remote for the camera.
Using the GPS function, images can also be geotagged with the Nikon D5300 and the location data stored in the image’s EXIF.
The Nikon D5300 can also shoot Full HD movies with frame rates up to 60p. The DSLR is the first to use a monocoque design, which makes it smaller and lighter (480g body only) than its predecessor the Nikon D5200, despite a larger LCD screen.
Nikon D5300 Release Date and Price
The Nikon D5300 will be available from November 14 with a price tag of £729.99 for the body only. The 18-55mm VR lens kit is priced at £829.99. The DSLR will launch in three colours: red, black and grey.
