The Nexus 5 will launch in Q4 as a Google smartphone made by Motorola running the latest Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

According to a well-known Motorola tipster, Taylor Wimberley, Motorola will be making the next Google smartphone.

Set to launch sometime in Q4 2013, the Nexus 5 will be a Motorola-made device potentially the first Google product to run the heavily rumoured Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

"Motorola will release a Nexus smartphone in Q4 (that is not the Moto X)", said Wimberley.

Despite a wealth of replies to Wimberley’s Google Plus post, he fails to give any further details about the Nexus 5.

The Nexus 4 was manufactured by LG, but the South Korean company confirmed in May that it wouldn’t be producing the next Google smartphone.

“The Nexus 4 was a great success despite the production problems for us and Google,” said Kim Wong, Vice President of LG Mobile in Europe. “However, we do not need such a marketing success again.”

Wong went on to say that LG and Google still had a strong relationship and wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to work with the search engine giant for future projects. It wished to concentrate on its own smartphone line-up, especially the recently unveiled LG G2 flagship.

Nexus 5 Rumours

Rather than launching a Google Edition of the Moto X, it seems that Motorola is choosing to partner with parent company Google to launch the Nexus 5.

It is said to be a 5-inch Full HD display smartphone running Android Key Lime pie on a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core CPU with 2GB of RAM.

Improving upon the Nexus 4, the next Google smartphone will supposedly have a 16-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel snapper up front. It is said to pack a hearty 3300mAh battery as well.

If it’s all sounding rather similar to the LG G2 specs that because it has been rumoured that it and the Nexus 5 will be nearly identical.
