Microsoft needs to 'cough up' and Xbox One release date says EA

With Microsoft remaining tight lipped on the precise arrival of its next-gen console, EA has called for the company to ‘cough up an Xbox One release date’.

With Sony having formally confirmed the PS4 release date in recent week as November 15 in the US and November 29 in the UK and Europe, EA’s COO Peter Moore has urged Microsoft to follow suit and make an announcement on the Xbox One release date in the near future.

Speaking with GamesIndustry International, Moore stated that PS4 could launch just a week apart, a move that would cause a number of issues for game publishers">the Xbox One and PS4 could launch just a week apart, a move that would cause a number of issues for game publishers and retailers alike.

“It has never happened this way,” Moore said of the pair of upcoming consoles. “There's always been a period of time, a sorbet between consoles, that has cleansed the palate and allowed us to move on. It might be a week, who knows? Microsoft needs to cough up the date.”

While gamers are also being forced to patiently wait for an Xbox One release date confirmation, Moore has delved deeper into the potential issues not knowing the console’s formal release date could pose for EA.

“Our titles have to flow in for 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One,” Moore stated adding: “All have to be merchandised correctly.”

He stated: “Manufacturing becomes an issue, because they're both on Blu-ray. So things that gamers don't have to worry about but we have to worry about is getting the flow of manufacturing right, getting the quantities right, making sure everything is at retail.”

EA’s Chief Operations Officer added:” Depending on which goes first they may want to change the store to focus on the new console coming out, I mean it's just what we do. That's the work we do, that's the business that we're in.”

To date Microsoft has stated only that the Xbox One release date will be held in November. Over the weekend, legal conditions and materials from a Pepsi promotion suggested that the Xbox One release would not take place until ‘late November’, hinting that the PS4 might get a jump on its rival.
