LG launches new Action Cam LTE

LG Action CAM LTE

LG announced its new Action Cam LTE some months ago, and it appears that rollout of the device has begun, with South Korea first on the list of countries to get an official launch.

With 4G connectivity and YouTube Live support, the Action Cam LTE is a new addition to LG's "friends" ecosystem, allowing you to stream live from anywhere.

And for the more intrepid user, the camera comes with an IP67 rating, meaning you can immerse it in up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes, plus the unit is dust- and sand-proof too.

What's more, you don't need to buy one of LG's phones in order to use it. If you'd written this one off because you don't fancy paying for LG's modular LG G5, you might want to reconsider.

Simply connect the 12-megapixel Action Cam LTE to a phone running Android 5.0 Lollipop or above, or iOS 9 and up.

Powering LG's latest device is a Snapdragon 650 and 2GB of RAM, which allows the camera to shoot UHD (1,440 x 2,560) footage at 30fps, Full HD (1,080 x 1,920) footage at 60fps, and HD (720 x 1,280) at 120fps.

It's also able to stream footage in HD over 3G, LTE or Wi-Fi, and has 4GB of internal storage, which is entirely reserved for its operating system.

Recorded footage can be stored by inserting a microSD card (up to 2TB) into the device, and syncing is achieved via the Action Cam LTE app on your smartphone.

If you like the idea of using the Action Cam LTE as a surveillance camera, you'll be happy to discover that the device comes with its own mount. Since the camera is controlled via your smartphone, it may offer a decent alternative to some of the other smart home cameras on the market.

The camera has started to hit South Korean shelves today, so it seems likely an international launch is just around the corner. Stay tuned for more information, including UK pricing, which is yet to be announced.
