Is Spotify actually giving up on Windows Phone?

Spotify

Spotify has shut down rumours that it’s scrapping support for Windows Phone.

Several recent reports (1,2) online claimed Spotify would soon give up on Microsoft’s mobile platform, but that’s turned out to be a falsehood.

In a statement sent to TrustedReviews, Spotify said:

“Our main goal at Spotify is to offer the best music experience on the market, covering all platforms. To clarify our recent information regarding the Windows Phone experience, we will continue supporting the Windows Phone 8.1 experience moving forward and we are actually improving our support for Windows 10 in our coming update 5.2, which will be available starting today.”

Support for Windows apps has always been controversial, and many developers have abstained from the platform due to its low user figures.

Just last month, WhatsApp announced plans to end support for a number of ailing operating systems, one of which was Windows Phone 7.1 The axing also included BlackBerry and Android 2.1 and 2.2.

But it seems that Spotify will live on in Windows, for now at least.

The blatant editorializing in the so-called tech media is shameful.
WhatsApp supports Windows Phone 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile and have made no announcements to the contrary. Incidentally, neither did Spotify, the tech media simply used an unverified source... again and ran with a false story.

Outrageous headline. Are you hoping the question mark is enough of a fig leaf to cover your mendacity? The real question mark is over your editorial standards. Shame.

No that's crazy Windows is far superior to Android that lags and freezes all the time in fact I just threw my Android phone across the room and it flew into 4 pieces.
Android has tons of garbage apps that break your phone and is malware/spyware prone.

I was an all Windows fan until Windows 10 with the spyware/adware built in and mega gigabytes of updates. I purchased a Mac but your locked into their software and updates they drop quickly on even relatively new models and for me it was useless for anything but E-mail. For now I'm on Linux for Email and back to Windows 7 for everything else and Windows 8.1 for smart phone. Zero issues with Windows phone just about perfect.

Now just fire Satya Nadella get rid of the spyware/adware and I will go back to Windows phone, PC and everything else if possible.

More Windows phone apps please.
