Intel has taken a unique approach to the wearables market by announcing the MICA, a fashion-focused smart bracelet.
The computing giant has teamed up with fashion company Opening Ceremony to create a fashion-focused wearable aimed at women. The result is the MICA, which stands for My Intelligent Communication Accessory.
While every other tech company is tying in their smartwatches and wearables with the imminent IFA show in Germany, Intel is referencing New York’s Fashion Week as the prompt for the MICA’s unveiling.
Intel will give the MICA its first public showing at the Opening Ceremony Spring/Summer 2015 fashion show, which is being held this Sunday August 7.
For now, we have some suitably funky pictures and the promise of “a feminine fashion accessory with communications capabilities.”
Both companies are keeping the MICA’s specs and capabilities beyond that a secret for now, although Intel did let slip that the bracelet will come with wireless charging support and a curved sapphire glass display.
Of course, they’re being more forthcoming about the materials used in the MICA’s glitzy exterior. These include water snakeskin (in black and white) and precious gems.
The white model will feature pearls from China and lapis stones from Madagascar, while the black model will come with tiger’s eye from South Africa and obsidian from Russia. Shiny.
Pricing and availability are as yet unconfirmed. Hopefully we’ll learn more once the MICA has strutted its way down the catwalk on Sunday.
