GameStick now available to pre-order

PlayJam has announced its portable TV games console, GameStick, is now available for pre-order from its dedicated website, GameStick.tv.

The product of a recent successful Kickstarter campaign by PlayJam, GameStick makes use of an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS to allow developers to take advantage of an open gaming platform, like other Android-powered games console Ouya. Designed to be ultra-portable, the GameStick console is also a steal, costing just $79 (£50.90).

“January was a pivotal month for GameStick with the success of the campaign ensuring that we could bring the device to life,” said CMO at PlayJam, Anthony Johnson. “Since the campaign closed, we have received thousands of e-mails from individuals keen to ensure they remain one of the first to receive the product. By continuing to offer GameStick on pre-order, we will be able to maintain momentum ahead of our planned retail activity.”

GameStick Features

The super-portable GameStick packs a fully-fledged games console onto a 2-inch FLASH drive that can be connected to any TV with an HDMI port. The GameStick BlueTooth Game Pad allows up to 10ft range from the GameStick console, and when not in use, the two combine into a single unit for ease of portability.

Developer PlayJam aims to provide “a world of big screen gaming directly into the pocket” and the GameStick looks set to not disappoint, offering a vast variety of Android games via the GameStick storefront. Titles can be downloaded onto the GameStick which comes bundled with up to 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card.

GameStick features an Amlogic 8726-MXS processor running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS with Wi-Fi connectivity. The overall interface uses PlayJam’s Games Network, which was originally designed for use with Smart TVs and currently supports developers including Disney and Relentless Software.

Centred on the notion of affordability, the GameStick offers low-cost games capable of being played in Full 1080p HD on any TV directly from the dinky Nintendo-like white console.

GameStick Release Date and Price

The pre-order service is powered by Amazon and enables fans eager to get their hands on a GameStick the option to guarantee themselves a console come the global GameStick release date in April.

Costing a mere $79 (£50.90), cheaper than the $99.99 (£63.38) asking price for the Ouya console, the GameStick will ship with one controller and the 2-inch GameStick console. Those wanting to take the console with them on various adventures may want to purchase a stylishly branded GameStick case for $9.99. A GameStick Dock supporting various peripheral devices, the ability to wirelessly charge the GameStick remote and power the GameStick can also be purchased for $24.99. A useful GameStick addition for those with hard to reach HDMI ports or wall-mounted TVs.
