Samsung has announced US availability of its child-friendly iteration of the Galaxy Tab 3 device, in hopes of swaying parents wishing to furnish their young ones with a slate this Christmas.

The device goes on sale in the US on November 10, but Samsung is yet to follow through on when the device will land in the UK, after pledging UK availability this summer.

The 7-inch tablet, first announced in August, is a repackaged version of the Galaxy Tab and comes with a modest 1024 x 600 screen, but brings a new interface that makes kid-specific content easy to access.

The Tab also brings a host of pre-loaded games and educational apps, while there’s also a Kids Store where others can be added to a wish-list which needs to be approved by parents before they’re downloaded.

There’s free access to games like Wipeout, Fruit Ninja, Where’s My Perry and Toy Story: Smash It!, while there’s also apps to assist with learning, such as Kids Planet Discovery and I Learn With Ocean.

There’s also a parental control mode that allows mums and dads to control what content kids can access and how long they can stay on the tablet at any one time.

If the parents need to use the tablet at any time, they can exit the Kids Mode and use the standard Android experience and switch back using PIN-codes.

The dual-core device also comes with a pumpkin-esque durable plastic casing (how seasonal…) to protect the device against the inevitable drops and spills.

The device goes up for pre-order across the pond on November 1 for $230, which is about £140. We’ve reached out to Samsung to see when the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids will be rolled out in the UK and will update this story if any word is forthcoming.
