Canon IXUS 140 and Powershot A3500 IS, A2600 and A1400 announced

Canon has today bolstered its popular compact line-up with the announcement of four new models: the IXUS 140, PowerShot A3500 IS, PowerShot A2600 and PowerShot A1400.

The four new models all offer point and shoot simplicity in stylish bodies, none more so than the headline IXUS model.

Canon IXUS 140 Specs
The Canon IXUS 140 combines a 16MP sensor with Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor, while an 8x optical zoom complete with 28mm wide angle complete an impressive imaging set-up. The lens itself incorporates Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer technology, with the Intelligent IS setting detecting camera shake and automatically selecting the correct setting from six different anti-shake modes.

The Canon IXUS 140 also features a 3in PureColor II G LCD screen, as well as supporting HD video albeit at a resolution of 720p rather than 1080p. Wi-Fi is also included and it is compatible with Canon’s free CameraWindow application that allows users to wirelessly connect and transfer images or movies to both iOS and Android smartphone or tablets. Canon’s iMAGE GATEWAY is also supported, a service offering cloud storage with a 10GB capacity.

Canon PowerShot A3500 IS, A2600 and A1400 Specs
The Canon PowerShot A3500 IS is the headline model of the three PowerShot announcements. It shares the same Wi-Fi functionality as that found in the Canon IXUS 140 along with several other features. The same 16MP sensor, capable of 720p video capture, is included here while a 3in LCD screen is located on the rear.

Although the Canon PowerShot A3500 IS features a slightly smaller 5x optical zoom, it still features the same 28mm wide angle and Intelligent IS image stabilisation system as the IXUS 140. The Canon PowerShot A2600, meanwhile, offers an almost identical specification to the A3500 IS, bar the exclusion of Wi-Fi technology and the optical image stabilisation system – this and the A1400 will have to rely on boosting ISO to compensate for camera shake instead.

The PowerShot A1400 is the final camera of the quartet and although it features the same 16MP sensor and 5x optical zoom as that found in the A3500 IS and A2600, its 2.7in LCD screen and plastic body mean that it’s a more modest and affordable proposition.

Release Date and Price
Although all four of the compacts have debuted today at CES 2013, you’ll have to wait a while to get your hands on them. The Canon IXUS 140, PowerShot A2600 and PowerShot A1400 are available from late February with SRPs of £159, £109 and £99 respectively. The Canon PowerShot A3500 IS is due to arrive a little later and should be available from early March with an SRP of £129
