Bookies back PS4 to outsell Xbox One

With the two consoles set to hit UK retailers over the next seven days, bookmakers have pegged the PS4 to be odds-on favourite to win the battle of the next-gen gamers.

Opting for the cheaper of the two next-gen rivals to take top honours this festive period, bookmaker Paddy Power has revealed that the Sony PS4 is 1/8 on to outsell its Xbox One branded rival within the UK this festive period.

The firm favourite with the bookies, the PS4, which will set wannabe owners back £349 and goes on sale in the UK on November 29, will require gambling fans to place an £8 bet in order to win just £1 in return if it goes on to outsell the Xbox One this year.

Conversely, those looking to have a little flutter on the Xbox One to be the year’s top selling next-gen console will receive odds of 9/2, meaning a £1 bet will recoup a further £4.50 in winnings if it indeed proves to be the leading console.

With the Xbox One release date to see the 360 follow-on go on sale at midnight, the console’s price has been seen as a potentially stumbling block for many gaming fans. Although coming bundled with a second-generation Kinect peripheral, the Xbox One price has been set at a premium £429.

“It’s been all one way traffic in the betting,” a Paddy Power spokesperson said in a recent statement. They added “It looks as though it’s game over for Xbox in the eyes of our punters at least.”

While the PS4 looks set to win the console wars, Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts is 1/5 favourite to be the video game chart’s Christmas number one.

With the cross-platform FIFA 14 second favourite to take honours, facing odds of 4/1, the PS3 and Xbox 360 locked GTA 5 appears to be hampered by its lack of next-gen availability, struggling to a 5/1 third favourite position for festive chart success.
