Bloodborne servers are down for “emergency maintenance”

Bloodborne’s multi-player servers have been taken offline for “emergency maintenance,” Sony Japan has announced.

Although the game is playable offline, multi-player content will be locked for a “few days.”

"We are currently conducting emergency maintenance on the game servers," Sony Japan said. “The maintenance should be complete within a few days. We will update you again once the maintenance ends."

Kotaku reports that the sudden maintenance may be due to an exploit that enables players to access The Old Hunters expansion for free.

Lead hosting engineer, Tim Wernicke, wrote on Reddit that “exploits and serious issues” had been found in the online portion of the game.

"We've received some really important feedback about an exploit and serious issues that exist in the game," Wernicke said.

"The game is currently undergoing emergency maintenance, and we're working non-stop to get some things patched and back online. So a huge thank-you to everyone here for the feedback, and please be patient while we work to get things restored."

"I apologize that I can't be more specific, but I wanted to let you know that we value your feedback, and what you're doing here is really helping. So, thanks!"

The Old Hunters expansion was released on 24 November, so players have had enough time to dig around for potential exploits.

Bloodborne’s online component allows you to summon players from other worlds to assist with difficult sections and bosses in the game.

You can also invade other players in an attempt to kill them and steal their precious Blood Echoes.
