BlackBerry's two new mid-range Android phones leak

Two forthcoming mid-range BlackBerry phones powered by Android appear to have been pictured.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen revealed that there were two new Android-powered BlackBerry phones on the horizon in an interview earlier in the month.

Chen said at the time that neither phone would be a successor to the BlackBerry Priv - the company's first Android phone - but rather would be a pair of mid-range alternatives.

Now we may have caught a glimpse at these two phones, supposedly code-named the Rome and the Hamburg.

We have to say that the mix of photos and renders, as spotted by PhoneArena, aren't of the best quality. One (pictured above) appears to be entirely blurred out. No, your broadband isn't on the fritz.

But that blurred image does at least fit in with Chen's claim that one of the new phones would have a traditional BlackBerry keyboard, while the other would be an all-touch model.

The keyboard-packing BlackBerry Rome looks set to have a dual-curved AMOLED display, like the Priv.

Both phones are set to come in around the $400 mark, which is around £274. While the Priv received some decent reviews, Chen has admitted that the company made a mistake in debuting with such a high-end phone for its first Android effort.

"A lot of enterprise customers have said to us, ‘I want to buy your phone but $700 is a little too steep for me. I’m more interested in a $400 device," said Chen.

That's just what they'll get, it seems, when the BlackBerry Rome and BlackBerry Hamburg launch some time in the next quarter.
