Apple iWork for iCloud Beta now open to all
Apple’s efforts to compete with Google Docs and Microsoft Office 365 were stepped up on Friday with the public roll-out of its iWork for iCloud beta.
Following the launch for selected users in July, now everyone with an Apple ID can access the company’s suite of productivity from iCloud.com.
Pages documents, Keynote presentations and Numbers spreadsheets can be accessed, created, edited and shared from iCloud with all changes being automatically synced back to the versions on Mac OS X and iOS devices.
Those without an Apple ID can also get in on the action simply by signing up at the website, meaning you don’t even need to have an Apple device to access the suite.
The company now faces the unenviable task of reeling in Google and Microsoft who’re runaway leaders in the cloud-syncing of documents department.
Microsoft’s Office 365 suite has earned rave reviews, while Google Docs (now part of Google Drive) has long been a favoured web-based alternative to the desktop iterations of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
