New Fire TV UI

Amazon is quietly rolling out its new Fire TV user interface. Here's a sneak peek at what's new in the radically redesigned UI.

The arrival of the software was first spotted by a Cord Cutters News reader, with the only official hints from Amazon buried in its Appstore Submission guidelines (H/T AFTV News).

Amazon promised a new Fire TV UI earlier in the year, but rollout details were thin on the ground. Now things look like they're getting underway.

As expected, Amazon is reorganising content under categories at the top of the screen – and killing off a number of categories in the hope of simplifying the overall browsing experience.

There's also a new 'Your Videos' section, which will pull together content from all the services you subscribe to and filter out paid-for shows and films.

There's a completely new app discovery screen, too, which centres on three main sections: Editor's Picks, Best New Apps & Games, and Trending.

App overlay screens will now feature more information as well, including a download status bar and new icons that indicate if apps are new, UHD, or stored in the cloud.

Lastly, Alexa integration is likely to be a lot more useful and intuitive, but we'll have to wait until we get a chance to experience Amazon's new Fire TV UI for ourselves to really judge any improvements.

As you can probably tell from the screenshots, the update is rolling out to the US first, but the UK shouldn't be far behind.

The update is officially known as Fire OS 5.2.4.0 and will come to second-gen Fire TV and Fire TV Sticks first, before (presumably) being made available for older hardware.
