GoPro Hero3 Black Edition - Sample Movies

CAR CLIP

Original clip shot at 1920 x 1080p @ 50fps
First things first – no speed limits were broken in the making of this short clip! And far from trying to show off our driving skills, we were actually looking to see how well the Hero3 Black Edition is able to deal with fast moving action and high-contrast lighting conditions. For a bit of extra insight we've only added the ProTune filter to half of the screen – the left-hand side has it activated while the right-hand side is untampered footage straight from the camera. The difference is quite striking.

KITESURF CLIP
Original clip shot at 1920 x 1080p @ 50fps
Ideally, we would have had a balmy sun-kissed day to record this bit of footage, however we were instead greeted with grey skies a freezing cold north Atlantic and light flatter than Lincolnshire. Still, at least we had some waves, some wind and a willing volunteer. We mounted the camera to the kite itself and shot around 20mins of footage in total. While GoPro's free CineForm Studio software lets you convert clips shot with Hero3 models and process them with a number of filter effects, there's no way to stitch individual clips into a single movie, which meant that we had to do this using iMovie. To keep the final file size down we reduced quality to 720p although the original was shot at 1080p @ 50fps. At around the 54s mark we used
CineForm Studio to reduce playback to 25fps, which results in a small slow-motion sequence. We also used the ProTune filter to give contrast, saturation and sharpness a bit of a much-needed boost.

SURF CLIP
Original clip shot at 1920 x 1080p @ 50fps
Another cold day in the north Atlantic looking for waves, with the Hero3 Black Edition strapped to our willing volunteer's head. While the camera does a good job of capturing the action, we did notice that the protective glass directly in front of the lens had a tendency to retain water droplets, which was a bit annoying. Still,
at least the protective casing did keep the sea water out when our test pilot fell off his board or had to duck-dive under incoming waves. Given the dull conditions, we again opted to run the sequence through the ProTune filter in order to give it a bit of extra zip and punch.
