I have had this camera for a couple of weeks.
I took the decision that I wasn't going to go down the SLR route and suffer the excess baggage charges when going on holiday.
It is currently expensive compared to other cameras with a seemingly similar specification, but I recommend you go to the shop and actually handle it.
It is reassuringly robust and tactile. The manual zoom makes you feel much more 'involved' in composing your photos.
It does have a rubbery feel as mentioned in the review, but that makes me think I'm less likely to drop it.
One slight annoyance, which I'm sure applies to all sorts of cameras with big lenses is the way it hangs around your neck on the supplied strap - in my view it would be better if the lens pointed vertically down (however, this can cause the zoom to extend under its own weight).
The 3 inch screen is great, but it's a shame it can't be swivelled shut with the delicate surface facing the camera body like in Canon cameras.
There's a lot to learn about the various modes and features, and the manual is surprisingly slim, so is not going to teach you photography from first principles.
The processing delays mentioned in the review don't seem to be an issue for me - aithough I haven't had the stopwatch out.
With a 30MB/s SD card it will keep shooting multiple exposures indefinitely.
The flexibilty of the lens has meant that I captured loads of images I didn't expect to. I'm still waiting for the camera to stop surprising me.
In time, I think the 3 custom settings will be useful to me.
So there you have a fairly non-technical review from a satisfied user.
