Oppo has just announced its latest flagship camera smartphone, the Find X8 Ultra, sporting a next-gen Hasselblad quad-camera system.
So how does Oppo’s flagship camera phone compare to the 4.5-star Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra? Should you favour one handset over the other?
While we haven’t reviewed the Oppo Find X8 Ultra yet, we’ve compared the specs to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and highlighted the key differences below.
Keep reading to learn more about the key differences between the two camera-focused 2025 flagship smartphones, and to see whether the Oppo Find X8 Ultra has the potential to take a spot in our best camera phones list.
Pricing and Availability
At the time of writing, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra is only available in China and can be pre-ordered for 6999 Chinese Yuan until its official launch on April 16th.
Launched at the start of 2025, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the most premium handset of the S25 series and has the price tag to match, with a starting RRP of £1249/$1299. Having said that, there are Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra deals available across major retailers.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has a higher resolution main camera
Both handsets are equipped with four rear cameras including a main sensor, two varying zoom lenses and a 50MP ultrawide lens, although the phones do differ slightly in their resolutions.
On paper, the Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts a higher main lens at 200MP while the Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s is a smaller 50MP, however this shouldn’t be taken at face value. In fact, Oppo explains its X8 Ultra’s 1-inch-backed primary lens is actually 69% larger than that of the S25 Ultra.

While the handsets both also have two zoom lenses, they differ slightly with their exact offerings. The S25 Ultra is made of a 10MP 3x telephoto and 50MP 5x periscope lenses, while the Find X8 Ultra is made up of dual 50MP 3x and 6x periscope lenses. Oppo states that its 3x sensor is 300% larger than S25 Ultra’s equivalent, while its 6x lens is 30% larger than the S25 Ultra’s 5x lens.

While we haven’t reviewed the X8 Ultra yet, we did conclude that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera set-up provides “great all-round performance with boosted zoom quality” and “takes a phenomenal photo” across all its lenses. With this in mind, we’re keen to see how the Find X8 Ultra’s cameras perform.
Oppo Find X8 Ultra promises more accurate colours
Samsung phones are known for delivering vibrant colour palettes that, although undoubtedly look great on social media, aren’t the most accurate or true-to-life, especially when compared to the Pixel 9 Pro XL or Oppo Find X8 Pro.

Much like its predecessor, the Find X8 Ultra promises to offer a more accurate colour and skin tone reproduction and to be better at capturing both warm and cold tones in one shot.
Considering we found the Find X8 Pro able to take “impressive images, with a great colour consistency across the board”, this bodes well for the Find X8 Ultra.
Snapdragon 8 Elite vs Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy
Although we haven’t reviewed the Find X8 Ultra yet, we have reviewed a handful of phones that sport the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and have been blown away by its performance. Take the OnePlus 13 for example; it boasts raw power and performance and saw benchmarking scores that trumped the likes of the A18 Pro chipset found in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra instead runs on a personalised version of the Qualcomm chipset, coined Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Although the handset scored slightly lower than the OnePlus 13, we still hailed it as “one of the most capable phones around” as it feels “about as fast and responsive as you’d expect.”

Oppo Find X8 Ultra has an IP68 and IP69 rating
Although it was heavily rumoured to, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra does not sport an IP69 rating and instead makes do with “just” an IP68 instead, whereas the Oppo Find X8 Ultra has both.
Although this may seem like a disadvantage for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, its IP68 rating is sufficient to protect the device from common accidents like being dropped in water for a brief period of time. The addition of an IP69 rating means the Oppo Find X8 Ultra is protected against high-pressure and high-temperature water jets, which arguably isn’t a situation you’re likely to find yourself in with your phone to hand.
Regardless, both handsets sport the highest dust protection rating, which means they are dust-tight.
Oppo Find X8 Ultra offers faster charging speeds
One way that Samsung lets itself down is with its charging speeds. With charging support of just 45W, we found that the Galaxy S25 Ultra took over an hour to charge from 1 to 100%.
The Oppo Find X8 Ultra, on the other hand, promises to provide full charging in just 34 minutes, thanks to its 100W wired charging support. However, you will need a compatible SuperVOOC charger to benefit from this speed.
That’s not all, as the Find X8 Ultra also supports up to 50W wireless charging, although Oppo hasn’t confirmed what this equates to in charging speeds yet.
Early Verdict
Although on paper, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra promises to be a mighty camera phone, thanks to its larger sensors and more true-to-life colour reproduction than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, we’ll have to wait until we review the handset before we make a conclusive decision.
