Huawei has just launched its latest lineup of smartwatches with the flagship Watch 5 and the Watch Fit 4 series.
Apart from the price discrepancy, with the Watch 5 sitting at a much more premium price point than the Watch Fit 4 Pro, what are the main differences between the two? Is the pricier Watch 5 guaranteed to be a better fitness tracker than its cheaper counterpart?
To help you decide, we’ve noted the key differences between the Huawei Watch 5 and Fit 4 Pro below. Keep reading to see which smartwatch is likely to suit you better, and which is likely to make it into our best smartwatch list.
Pricing and Availability
As mentioned above, the Huawei Watch 5 is the pricier of the two, with a starting RRP of £399.99 for the 42mm-sized model.

Although it’s cheaper than the Watch 5, the Watch 4 Pro is more expensive than its Fit Watch 4 counterpart, with an RRP of £249.99. All of the Huawei watches, including the Fit Watch 4 series, are available to buy now.
Both have a sapphire glass display
We’ll start with a key similarity between the two. Both the Watch 5 and Fit 4 Pro sport a sapphire glass display that Huawei claims is “second only to diamond in hardness” and delivers “exceptional corrosion and wear resistance”. However, the Watch 5 has spherical sapphire glass, which should also help to reduce distortion.
Otherwise, the Fit 4 Pro also pairs its durable screen with an ultra-thin build, as the watch is just 9.3mm thick.
Huawei Watch 5 integrates multi-sensing X-Tap Technology
The Huawei Watch 5 introduces a new sensor on its side, which promises to offer more accurate and comprehensive metrics. Coined as multi-sensing X-Tap technology, powered by Huawei’s Distributed Sensor Module, this setup analyses your fingertip to offer a more accurate measurement that’s faster than standard wrist monitors.
Even so, both the Watch 5 and Watch Fit 4 Pro make use of Huawei’s TruSense, which is a system that accurately monitors your health and fitness, and tracks everything from heart rate to respiratory rate.

Huawei Fit 4 Pro can survive in up to 40 meters of water
One of the new additions to the Fit 4 Pro is its introduction of water sports tracking, specifically the support for diving to a depth of 40 meters. Not only that, but the Fit 4 Pro also supports advanced sports modes, including professional trail running and even pro-level golfing too.
That’s not to say the Watch 5 isn’t water resistant. It also sports a 5ATM rating and can support dives up to 30m.

Huawei Watch 5 is built with aerospace-grade titanium
Although both the Watch 5 and Fit 4 Pro promise to offer enhanced durability, they are made from different materials. While the Fit 4 Pro sports an aviation-grade aluminum body with titanium alloy bezel, which is known to be both strong and lightweight, the Watch 5 boasts aerospace-grade titanium with stainless steel casing instead.
Although we haven’t reviewed the Fit 4 Pro, we have reviewed the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro which also sports titanium alloy which we found keeps the watch “lightweight” and “very functional” too.
In addition, the 46mm Watch GT5 Pro also features the same aerospace-grade titanium as the Watch 5. With this in mind, we can reasonably expect that both the Watch 5 and the Fit 4 Pro are lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Huawei Watch 5 has gesture controls
The Watch 5 is fitted with numerous wrist and hand gesture controls that bring up various functions, without you having to engage with the watch.
Alongside existing tools like making a fist to answer a call or rotating your wrist to mute an incoming call, the Watch 5 now supports “double slide” and “double tap” motions which Huawei explains provides users with “intuitive interaction options.”
Early Verdict
While we’ll have to wait until we review both smartwatches to give a conclusive verdict, the Watch 5 promises to offer more comprehensive health and fitness tracking thanks to its introduction of multi-sensing X-Tap technology.
However, if you’re just getting started with your health and fitness journey and are looking for a more general overview, the Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro still promises solid tracking at a considerably cheaper price.
