Trend Titanium Maximum Security 2013 Review - Performance and Verdict Review

Sections

Running our usability tests, Trend Titanium Maximum Security 2013 managed to scan 10,437 files in 5 minutes 50 seconds, giving a scan rate of 29.8 files/s. This sits at the lower end of scan speeds among similar products and a repeat of the scan still examined 10,408 files, though this time in 4:12, so increasing the scan rate to 41.3 files/s. It hasn’t done much fingerprinting of files, though, to ignore those that haven’t changed since the last scan.

The program does reasonably well in its resource hit when scanning. Copying 2GB of files with just background processes running took 1:34, but the time only increased to 1:52 with a full scan in process, too, an increase of 19 percent.
Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2013 - Tune-up
The German test site AV Test (www.av-test.org) scored the product at 15.5/18.0, which is a very good score, fourth equal in its recent group test of 25 home IS products.

Breaking the result down into its component parts, it scores a full 6.0/6.0 for Protection, the ability to spot and act on zero-day, recent and older, widespread malware. We don’t often see a full score here.
Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2013 - With Skin
It does nearly as well under Repair, its skill at rectifying damage caused my stealth and rootkit attacks. It scored 5.5/6.0 and was well above average in both detection and removal.

It dropped two points, down to 4.0/6.0 on Usability, where AV-Test measured an above average slowdown of the underlying system. There were a couple of false blockings of legitimate software, too, which hit the overall result.

Verdict
Trend Titanium Maximum Security 2013 is a very competent IS suite, with easy to use controls and the flexibility to handle the mix of devices more commonly owned by many customers. It’s slightly odd not to include a two-way firewall in the mix, but its range of features is strong and at the best price we could find, it’s very good value.
