What is the Tefal Turbomix Plus?

The Tefal Turbomix Plus is an affordable hand blender with one foot and one speed. It boasts a bit more power than the very cheapest models and comes with a plastic jug.

We like its industrial design: it feels good in the hand and the foot is easy to clean.

Tefal Turbomix Plus – Design and features

The Turbomix Plus has a very curvy, white plastic body and a stainless steel blending foot. A metal foot is more heat resistant and stain-proof than a plastic one. Put simply: if your soup pan is ridiculously hot, you don’t have to fret about the foot melting if it touches the bottom.

The foot has two blades: one bends upwards, the other downwards. The stainless steel around them has curved slits big enough that they’re easy to clean.

The foot is threaded and unscrews easily for cleaning and storage. And the top of the blender is home to a large, rubber loop that’s perfect for hanging it up.

The Turbomix Plus comes with a tall, narrow, plastic jug that’s a good shape for blending with minimal spillage. It’s graduated in fluid ounces and (slightly weirdly) decilitres. The jug has a spout and holds 800ml but the maximum fill line for blending is 500ml.

Tefal Turbomix Plus – What’s it like to use?

The curvaceous Tefal feels lovely. It sits nicely in the hand and your index finger naturally falls on its one button. Controls are simple thanks to its single speed.

It made fast, smooth work of blending onion soup, which we did in the jug that comes with the blender. The tall, thin jug is well designed for minimising spills but suction is a problem – you need to hold the jug firmly and move the blender up and down with your other hand repeatedly to blend.

Making hummus was pretty successful. It felt as if the motor was struggling initially, but after adding some cooking liquid the mix could move and blend better. Again, strong suction means you must grip the jug firmly if you want to move the blender up and down.

Cleaning was easy. Food was easy to scrape out of the end of the blending foot, thanks to the uncramped design with big slits in the sides. Using it briefly in a jug of soapy water is a good way to clean it and gets the jug pretty clean too.

Should I buy the Tefal Turbomix Plus?

Maybe. It does straightforward blending well but the less powerful Russell Hobbs 22241 does a pretty good job too, for little more than half the price.

So if you want a simple bargain, consider the Russell Hobbs. But our Editor’s Choice is the Braun MQ3025, which packs more features and only costs a little more than the Tefal.

Verdict

This simple hand blender has a nice design but it’s pricier than some similar models.
