Shark NV680UKT – Stair Cleaning

With its lightweight, lift-out pod and small turbo-brush tool, we had high hopes for stair cleaning with the Shark NV680UKT – and we weren’t disappointed. The lift-away section is easy to carry and set down on each step, the hose and short wand feel the ideal size, and the turbo-brush tool is perfect for carpeted stairs.

For wooden or other hard floors, the stiff bristle brush comes into play and the compact handle makes manoeuvring this tool very easy. Should you spot a rogue cobweb or need to get in a nook or cranny half way up the stairs, the on board tools are always at hand.

Moreover, the Shark comes with a healthy 8m long cable, which meant we were able to get up or down the entire flight of stairs without swapping plug sockets half way through. For cleaning stairs, this NV680UKT is pretty much perfect.

Shark NV680UKT – Pet Hair

Feline fur balls and canine grime held no fear for the Shark, be it on open carpets, hard floors or half way up the stars. The rotating brush bar in the main floor-head and the turbo-brush performed exceptionally for cleaning up pet hair and muck, backed up by good suction power.

The main floor-head cleaned our test patch of mixed canine fluff, rubbed into the carpet, in around six seconds and the stiff bristles of the turbo-brush tool pulled hairs from the sofa with equal aplomb. Cleaning the pet beds required opening the suction release slider on the handle to stop the cover from being sucked into the brush, but it still cleaned very well indeed.

Better still, both tools are fairly easy to access and clean out should longer hairs become wrapped around the brush. With its electrically powered brush in the main floor-head and the versatile turbo-brush tool, the NV680UKT truly does live up to its billing.

Should I buy the Shark NV680UKT?

Our first Shark to the TrustedReviews test bench passes with flying colours. The NV680UKT is a talented and versatile all-rounder, with a superb selection of tools, performing brilliantly in our tests. It isn’t perfect – the bin is on the small side and the stiff joint on one of tools was annoying – but it delivers in every other respect.

On the whole, however, the NV680UKT proves it’s good enough to join the ranks of the best vacuum cleaners we’ve tested.

Verdict

A reliable, versatile upright, provided you can live with the small bin capacity.
