Samsung Xpress M2022W – Print Speeds

Samsung rates the Xpress M2022W at 20ppm and on an ISO page-to-page speed rating, it may be right. In the real world, though, where you need to know the speed of a job from start to finish, it’s a bit lower. Our 5-page text print gave a speed of 11.1ppm, with an eco-print of the same document, slightly surprisingly, producing a marginally lower figure of 10.7ppm.

The 20-page test increased this to 15.0ppm, three quarters of the quoted speed and a very good throughput for a printer at this price. The 5-page text and graphic document was slower at 8.6ppm, perhaps because of a longer rasterisation time.

Printing 15 x 10cm photos on A4 from a PC and a Samsung Galaxy S3 Android smartphone took 22s and 11s, respectively. Interesting that the Android time was faster than from the more powerful PC.

Samsung Xpress M2022W – Print Quality and Costs

The print quality is very good for a budget mono laser. Black text, at the printer’s enhanced 1,200dpi, is very sharp and dense, with no sign of toner spatter. Greyscale graphics are also clean, with slight banding, but surprisingly little. There aren’t that many different grey shades apparent, though.

The single drum and toner cartridge comes in at around £35, giving a page cost of 4.4p, including 0.7p for paper. This is a touch cheaper than rival mono lasers, though more than some inkjets at similar prices.

Should I buy a Samsung Xpress M2022W?

There are a few rival machines that need to be compared with this printer, such as the https://www.trustedreviews.com/brother-hl-1110_Printer_review Brother HL-1110, but the big difference between the two is that the Samsung machine has wireless provision. Not only is this more convenient for connection, but with NFC, it makes printing from mobile devices very easy.

Verdict

This is a great little mono laser printer which does more than it needs to for its price. It’s quick and easy to use and the eco-driver is useful in saving money as well as helping with the planet, plus its phone and tablet integration is class-leading.
