Samsung UE32J6300 – Sound quality
The UE32J6300’s speakers are surprisingly powerful. They produce a large soundstage that stretches comfortably beyond the physical confines of the TV’s bodywork, without losing cohesion or sounding harsh – even during full-tilt action scenes.
They also make dialogue seem locked to the screen where it should be, even while ambient sounds are spreading far and wide. Dialogue never sounds muffled or overwhelmed.
There’s no distortion in the speakers at sensible volumes either, and Samsung’s set even has a stab at injecting a little bass into proceedings, so that sound mixes aren’t too dominated by trebles.
All in all, the UE32J6300 is one of the best-sounding 32-inch TVs I’ve heard to date.
Other Things To Consider
The curved screen on the UE32J6300 means it’s arguably more useful as a gaming monitor than a television. So it’s a relief to find it turning in a solid – although certainly not spectacular – input lag score of around 40ms when using its Game picture preset.
There are a small number of TVs out there that get as low as 10-20ms, while some dedicated gaming monitors achieve below 10ms. But most LCD TVs come in at around 30ms or higher, so the UE32J6300 probably won’t disadvantage you too much against other gamers in the world.
Should I buy a Samsung UE32J6300?
If you’re after a TV to go into a study or games room, for example, then the UE32J6300 is well worth considering. It’s in these circumstances that you might actually find its curved screen marginally enhances your viewing experience.
For a large shared space, however, this curved screen will do more harm than good. Which isn’t ideal when – based on my experience with other curved TVs this year – you’re likely to be paying more for the curved screen than you would be for a flat equivalent.
That said, the UE32J6300’s picture and sound quality, as well as its smart features, are all strong for what’s becoming an increasingly commoditised part of the TV market, so there aren’t that many quality alternatives to choose from right now.
Verdict
Samsung’s knack for delivering good AV and smart standards on relatively small and affordable TVs continues with the UE32J6300. It’s picture quality is pretty much as good as it gets in the 32-inch world these days. It’s just a shame that for us its curved screen potentially limits its usefulness.
