Morphy Richards Supervac 732008 – Stairs
With no ‘hose and tools’ facility on offer, the Supervac 008 has to be manhandled up stairs and used on each individual step. Thanks again to its super light weight this is not a problem and the lack of cord gives you superb reach and eliminates the potential trip hazard too. The cleaner addresses both carpeted and hard surfaces with ease and the pivoting head does give you some scope to manoeuvre around turning steps.
The limiting factor for the 008’s stair cleaning prowess is its poor edge cleaning and the lack of any hand tool alternative to address the areas that the main floor head misses.
A small domestic dispute at the test facility ensued. While the latter issue was less than ideal, it was argued that the Supervac 008 was not designed to be the ‘main’ or only cleaner in the household. As such its ability to give a decent clean on open floors and stairs, while being lightweight and easy to use made it the perfect secondary cleaner. The assumption being that missed edges and lack of really deep carpet cleaning are likely to being addressed by a less regular going over with the home’s main corded vacuum.
It’s a fair point but still no excuse for poor head design in our estimation.
Morphy Richards Supervac 732008 – Pet Hair
With its rotating brush bar and soft bristles, pet hairs don’t pose too much of a problem for the Supervac 008. A couple of passes of our pet hair test patch of carpet, featuring mixed Collie and Labrador hair, saw the area cleaned in around 12 seconds. That is a fabulous result for a stick vac and is not too far away from our threshold for pet specific cleaners of under 10 seconds.
Again the poor edge cleaning can leave you with hairs embedded into the carpet in corners but the 008 lapped up surface hairs out on open carpet and hard floors with ease. Likewise the lack of tools means that it’s not really suitable for cleaning the likes of the sofa or pet beds. The soft bristle brush did not seem to entangle hairs any more so than a traditional stiff bristle brush, and Morphy has usefully included a coin-turn release for access to the bar, making cleaning easy.
Should I buy the Morphy Richards Supervac 732008?
As a home’s second cleaner the Supervac 008 offers cordless convenience, super light weight and cleaning performance up there with most stick vacs on the market. Plus battery life is good enough for a full house clean.
It is, however, rather messy to empty and doesn’t give deep or edge cleaning like the best corded models, but for a quick clean up’s the 008 is, if not quite super, then at least quite useful.
The Supervac 732008 is an ideal second vacuum cleaner for quick clean ups, but lacks the power for more serious cleaning.
