Kyocera Mita FS-1325MFP – Print Speeds
Kyocera Mita claims a top speed of 25ppm for this machine, which is a very good speed for a £220 multifunction. Our 5-page text document came through at 14.3ppm, a little over half this speed, but the 20-page long document gave 21.1ppm, not far off spec.
Duplex print is standard on the machine and the 20 page document printed as 10 page duplex produced 13.3 sides per minutes, another very respectable speed. A 15 x 10cm photo printed on A4 came through in 10s – pretty quick.
Although the machine’s scanner has a top resolution of 600 dpi, making it unsuitable for scanning photos if you intend to enlarge them, it does enable very quick scanning. A single page text and graphics sheet scanned in 10s and our five-page text document took 21s through the ADF.
Kyocera Mita FS-1325MFP – Print Quality and Running Costs
The quality of the prints from this machine is OK, though by default we found the text a little light. Switch to eco-print, to save toner, and you’ll need good office lighting to read it without eyestrain.
Greyscale print is a little blotchy and different colours in our test original produced very similar shades of grey. A copy of this sheet from the machine’s scanner saw greyscales quite heavily disturbed and patchy. The printed photo sample, though, showed plenty of detail, including some in the difficult to reproduce darker areas.
The device has an peak noise output of 63dBA at 0.5m, which is about average for the type, but Kyocera Mita’s Quiet Mode (with a special button on the control panel) made no difference that we could measure.
Since the only consumable is toner, running costs should be relatively low, but we calculate a five percent black text page at 3.2p, including 0.7p for paper. This is only in the middle of the range among similar machines and some Canon and HP models can better it.
Verdict
The Kyocera Mita FS-1325MFP is a well-designed multifunction device for the small office. Programmed jobs and the Print Boxes are useful innovations and the machine prints and copies quickly. However, it doesn’t have the same running cost advantage as some other Kyocera Mita machines and print quality, while adequate, is not the best available at the price.
