ISN’T HE INCREDIBLE!?
Despite being barely capable of speech thanks to jetlag on Monday, my stand-out moment of Computex has to be Asus’ keynote presentation. Not for the products, they were fine (aside from ZenBo), but for Asus chairman Jonney Shih.
Shih patrolled the stage, looking back at the products he had just revealed and screamed about them with a passion I don’t think I’ve seen since Steve Ballmer. Now, I’m not comparing Shih to Ballmer but a man walking around the stage shouting about tech products only brings up one relevant memory in my mind.
At the press conference, there was a mixture of amusement and amazement as Shih announced product after product with boundless energy. I found myself laughing through most of it, not ironically, but through genuine entertainment. His style is unorthodox and would make any public speaking trainer wince, but you can’t deny you won’t forget it in a hurry.
No, Thank YOU Jonney Shih.
He’s not like any other corporate executive. Eccentric and unflinchingly positive about everything, I would absolutely love to be a fly on the wall in an Asus executive meeting. What if you get on the wrong side of him? That voice can surely be used for good and for bad.
If ZenBo gets custom voice profiles, Shih has to be one of them. He’d be especially good at the dinner table: “ISN’T THIS SPAGHETTI INCREDIBLE?”.
If we gave out awards for “best person at Computex”, Shih would be in the running.
