Level Up: The PS5 and Xbox Series X are an ideal excuse to get a new telly

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are rapidly approaching and we couldn’t be more excited. And why not? Both consoles look absolutely stunning.

They’re set to bring with them a wealth of stellar new launch titles and a number of awesome graphical and hardware upgrades that on paper make the previous generation of consoles look like Stone Age relics.

Highlights include Dolby Atmos, higher resolutions, Ray Tracing, faster SSDs and super speedy 120fps HDR gaming. The only downside? Unless you’ve recently invested in a top notch telly with HDMI 2.1, chances are you’re not going to be able to take advantage of all the new features.

For those out of the know, most older TVs, even the expensive ones don’t support 120Hz. Instead they’re locked at 60Hz. They also probably don’t support Dolby Atmos, though unless you plan on buying a top end speaker system or soundbar featuring the tech this isn’t as big of a deal.

Ordinarily we’d say this is bad news. But given the time of the year, we here at Trusted Reviews think, if you have the spare cash, there’s a big silver lining.

It’s no secret, we’re entering deals season. Prime Day’s come and gone, but Amazon’s bigger sales bonanza, Black Friday, is fast approaching and with it we’re expecting all manner of stellar TV deals to appear.

For the cultural ostriches among us, Black Friday is a yearly sale that originates from the States. It sees stores, both online and physical, run huge discounts. Each year it always brings with it a number of cracking discounts on TVs. Last year we saw huge savings on top notch LG OLEDs that shed as much as 40% of their regular RRP.

Though this hardly makes them affordable, we’re still talking shelling out in excess of £1000, we here at Trusted Reviews have an inkling that we’ll see even better discounts and may even see top end QLED and OLED TVs drop below the hallowed £1k mark.

This plus the imminent threat of a second lockdown, make it a perfect time to splurge on an early Christmas present and set yourself up with a new console and TV. I mean what else are we going to do during a second lockdown?

I don’t know about you, but I’m Zoom call and digital pub quizzed out…

On board with the idea, but not sure which TVs to look out for? Then jump on over to our brand spanking new Best TVs for Gaming guide, to see our experts’ picks of the best tellies for the PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Also keep an eye on our homepage as we’ll be keeping an eye out for all the best TV deals in the run up to and during Black Friday.
