ZTE to launch first Tegra 4 smartphones

ZTE has confirmed that it is to launch the first Tegra 4 smartphones, with the NVIDIA powered handsets to be officially released later this year.

Building on the two company’s long-term partnership, Chinese manufacturer ZTE has revealed that the quad-core Tegra 4 chipsets, first unveiled at CES 2013 earlier this year, will adorn a selection of new ZTE handsets later in the year, offering improved load and reaction times alongside better battery life.

“This is a clear demonstration of ZTE’s ability to quickly develop, and bring to market, market-leading devices running the industry’s latest technologies,” Mr. He Shiyou, ZTE EVP and the company’s Head of the Terminal Division, said.

“We’re proud to continue our pioneering partnership with NVIDIA and are looking forward to offering more Tegra-powered devices, which are defining a new generation of phones offering premium mobile computing experiences.”

He added: “Our Tegra 4 smartphones will provide full HD entertainment and multimedia experiences that consumers will love.”

Allowing the new handsets to offering ultra-fast web browsing, more realistic gaming experiences and quicker app launch times, the recently unveiled Tegra 4 chips are set to feature a quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU alongside 72 custom NVIDIA GeForce cores.

“ZTE’s newest super phones will show off Tegra 4’s processing power, efficiency and unprecedented capabilities,” said Phil Carmack, Senior Vice President of the Mobile business at NVIDIA. “They’re a great example of what the market expects from one of the world’s largest phone makers.”

With the first ZTE Tegra 4 smartphones to hit retailers later this year, ZTE is widely expected to unveil a selection of new Android powered handsets next week during the Barcelona based MWC 2013 conference.
