ZTE Grand S full HD phone details revealed

Details have emerged of a high-end Android device from ZTE called the ZTE Grand S, which will be revealed at CES 2013.

ZTE has been steadily building its stand-alone Android handset business (it used to make cheap phones for other companies) in 2012, with low to mid-range devices like the ZTE Grand X (pictured). Now it looks set to enter the big time with the ZTE Grand S.

Earlier in the week, the ZTE design chief confirmed that the company would be launching a high-end handset at CES in January. Nothing more was mentioned about the precise specs of the device, however.

Now as Cnet reports, information has emerged concerning the new device – including its name, the ZTE Grand S.

Over on the official CES 2013 press events schedule, there’s an event entry called ‘Introducing the ZTE Grand S.’ Click on this and you receive the following description:

“Be the first to see the brand new Grand S, ZTE’s flagship handset in its high-end Grand Series of products. ZTE’s first FHD smartphone is also the world’s thinnest for 5 inch FHD smartphones. Made of ceramic and featuring traditional Chinese style, the Grand S is the perfect phone for the fashionable set.”

This confirms that the ZTE Grand S will feature a 5-inch full HD display, which would put it in the same 1080p category as the recent HTC Droid DNA aka the HTC DLX. Like that handset, this would make for a pixel density of 440ppi – around 25 per cent sharper than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3.

We’ll know more from January 8 when CES 2013 kicks off.
