ZTE Axon high-end phablet unveiled

Chinese manufacturer ZTE has taken the wraps off a new, high-end smartphone with some seriously premium specs.
The ZTE Axon was unveiled at a recent New York event, and according to ZTE it’s been designed specifically for the US market.
To that end, the ZTE Axon is big, powerful, and sports “a sleek metallic body.” It features a 5.5in QHD LCD screen, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB of RAM – high-end specs for a 2015 Android phone.
It features a 13-megapixel camera with an LG G4-like f/1.8 aperture. In fact, it also comes with a second 2-megapixel lens for HTC One M8-like post-snap refocusing.
Rounding off the high-end specs are 32GB of internal storage – there’s no microSD slot – and a 3,000mAh battery.
The ZTE Axon also boasts hi-fi audio playback and recording, which should be of interest to audiophiles looking for a bit of a bargain.

The ZTE Axon is available to purchase from Amazon for just $449.98 (around £287), with shipments expected on 27 July.
This phone has clearly been designed to help the Chinese brand break through in America. The ZTE Axon definitely has the specs and price point to warrant a second look, and we’re hopeful that it will make its way to the UK soon, where the brand is only a little more established.
