ZTE Apache release rumoured for 2013 as first eight-core smartphone

Continuing the rapid rise of the smartphone market, Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE is rumoured to be working on the world’s first eight-core handset to launch in 2013.

Tipped for release next year, the expectantly speedy and heavily rumoured ZTE Apache handset is set to become the first eight-core smartphone device, with the traditionally budget handset manufacturer reportedly sourcing its multiple-core CPUs from MediaTek, not a company renowned for its high-end components.

With the as yet unconfirmed eight-core mobile processor reportedly sporting the model number MT6599, Android Headlines has reported that the ZTE Apache’s CPU will be based on TSMC’s 28nm manufacturing process and be built around the now ageing a far from speedy Cortex-A7 architecture.

Although little else is known about the rumoured ZTE Apache, it has been claimed that the manufacturer, which recently unseated HTC as the world’s fourth largest mobile phone provider thanks largely to sales in its native China, will pack the eight-core handset with a full array of high-end specs. Said to boast a 13-megpixel rear-mounted camera, the ZTE Apache is mooted to be readying itself for market with a Full HD display and 4G connectivity options in tow.

Whilst ZTE with the ZTE Apache is seemingly tipped to become the world’s first eight-core handset with an early 2013 unveiling, recent reports have suggested Samsung is also working on its own eight-core smartphone with the high speed CPU a potential inclusion for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Rumours
One of the most eagerly awaited handsets around, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to line up as yet another high-end smartphone boundary pusher with the Samsung Galaxy S3 follow-on recently rumoured to host everything from a 5-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display to its own 13-megapixel camera.

With a Samsung Galaxy S4 release date reportedly having been pencilled in for March 2013, it is expected that ZTE will officially unveil the ZTE Apache at MWC 2013 in order to beat Samsung to the eight-core handset punch by a matter of weeks.
