Zen Thermostat is simple but smart

Looks like Nest has some stiff competition. Zen Thermostat syncs to your phone, looks elegant, and promises to be incredibly simple to use.

It’s smart, so you can control it from your smartphone, but it doesn’t come loaded with useless features. Instead, the LED screen shows you info like the temperature and Wi-Fi connectivity when needed.

It’s simple to use, too. Just touch the screen to wake it up, then use the left and right arrows to switch between heating, cooling, and controlling the fan. The up and down arrows let you set the temperature.

Of course you can control it from your phone too, so you can set the optimum temperature for when you get home. Using the app you can change the temperature, manage the zones you’ve set up in your home (using more than one Zen Thermostat), set a schedule to fit what you’re up to, and create and modify presets for the device.

Zen Thermostat also fits into existing home systems like Apple HomeKit.

You can connect up to five Zen Thermostats in your home too, and manage each separately, so you can have a different temperature in the living room than the bedroom, say.

It comes in black and white, and attaches using magnets, so is easy to click on and off the wall mount.

It’s already close to its funding goal, and with weeks still to go, it looks like it will go into production. You can find out more on its Indiegogo page.
