Youview chairman Lord Alan Sugar steps down

Lord Alan Sugar has announced that he is to step down from his role as the non-executive chairman for YouView in the coming weeks.

A great influence during his two years working with the product, Lord Sugar helped guide the now award-winning YouView product through its launch period. Now, YouView claims to be the fastest growing TV platform in the UK

“When I joined YouView in 2011, my brief from the shareholders was to use my experience in the electronics industry to get the product to market and into the homes of consumers,” said Lord Sugar. “Having done that successfully, my job is complete and I will now focus my time and attention into my other businesses.”

“I’d like to thank all those who are part of the YouView project, including its suppliers, staff and shareholders and I wish them every success in the future.”

YouView has confirmed that there will be a new chairman announced in due time.

YouView Features

YouView is a subscription-free TV platform that combines live television broadcasting with catch-up services like the BBC iPlayer, 4OD and ITV Player.

Utilised through the purchase of a dedicated YouView set top box like the Humax DTR-T1000 and recently launched Humax DTR-T1010, the YouView platform provides over 70 live digital channels alongside the on-demand content.

Like the Sky service, the YouView TV Guide gives users the ability to scroll back through the past seven days of programming, catching up with any shows they may have missed. Also, they have the option to pause or rewind live TV in case they need to take a break or missed a pivotal moment in their favourite show.

With YouView, users can record up to two programmes at any one time, even when watching a third on a different channel, and store them within the YouView set top box’s in-built memory.
