YouTube has undergone some radical design changes in the past year and it seems to be paying off with parent company Google claiming that it is now getting over 4 billion daily video views on YouTube.
That is according to a report from Reuters who claim the information is coming directly from the Mountain View company. It says that the four billion figures represents a 25 per cent increase in just the past eight months.
It has also emerged that 60 hours of content is being uploaded to YouTube every minute, which is up from 48 hours as reported back in May.
YouTube, which Google purchased for $1.65 billion in 2006, is one area where Google believes it will be able to generate new sources of revenue outside of its traditional Internet search advertising business.
In its most recent set of financial results announced last week, Google said that the graphical display ads which are integrated alongside YouTube videos are generating $5 billion in revenue, on an annualised run rate basis.
The website was recently redesigned to more prominently showcase specialised “channels” organised around different types of content. In October, YouTube announced that it had struck 100 original video programming deals with media partners including Madonna and Jay-Z.
