You can now stream HDR videos hosted on YouTube on the iPhone X.
YouTube has added support for HDR video streaming on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, a little more than eight months after the feature arrived for select Android smartphones, including the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S8.
The main advantage of HDR is that it’s a lot more colourful and radiant than Full HD. But there’s a downside: there isn’t an awful lot of creator-based content available in the standard – most YouTubers upload in either Full HD or 4K.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t try out the feature. A simple search for HDR on YouTube will yield a slew of demo content that’ll let you experience the improved picture for yourself. Just don’t expect to find anything with a gripping narrative.

Best of all, there’s no need to fire up the App Store to install a new version of the YouTube application; the upgrade takes place in the background. Your iPhone should automatically switch over to HDR when streaming a compatible video.
It’s also worth noting, as per The Verge, that since HDR is about delivering improved brightness, colour and contrast, the content doesn’t have to be in Full HD (1080p) – the standard is also supported at lower resolutions, like 480p.
