YouTube app is decimating iOS battery life — are you affected?

YouTube has admitted it is working on a fix for it’s iOS app, following user reports watching videos is causing heavy battery drain and devices to run hot.
iOS 11 users on a variety of iPhone and iPad models have taken to social media to report problems while playing videos within the app.

One user claimed 10-15 minutes of video caused a 20% battery drain, while another said it had contributed to 59% of battery drain, while also causing the device to heat up (via 9to5Mac).

My new iPhone 7 gets very warm playing YouTube videos, which surprised me. Not sure if it's an iOS 11 thing or not, it came with 11 out of the box.

Support staff on the @TeamYouTube Twitter account have acknowledged the problem and pledged that a fix is on the way.

It may have already arrived with an update posted to the App Store this morning, but the release notes didn’t specify what issues the new version was dealing with.
And, according to Twitter reports, users are still experiencing the problems on a multitude of iOS 11 devices.
