You can finally sync Strava with Apple Health − here’s how

Previously, Strava had an annoying quirk that meant you couldn’t sync workout data from the app with Apple Health. But thanks to a new update you can now port across that info, which makes it a lot easier to boast about your fitness stats.

The previous limits on data porting seemed a bit silly, given that Strava was already available on Apple Watch and was pretty iOS-friendly.

It meant that iPhone owners found themselves flipping between applications to calculate all the tricky input and output numbers that are painfully important to fitness-types. And it effectively stranded all of the data in one place.

But the new update means that it doesn’t matter where you record your workouts, as you can port them anywhere (-ish).

After installing the update users can flick through their past 30 days of their activity on Apple Health, choose which bits to port over, then stamp them with the usual title and photo details before porting into Strava. You can also port the data over in the opposite direction and set it to auto-share.

This new feature might not sway anyone who’s happy using Apple Health, but that’s not really Strava’s target audience.

The social fitness network is populated by people who enjoy publishing details of their running, swimming and gymming sessions – and who don’t mind a little healthy competition between friends on the app. Apple Health is a more private affair.

To set up the new data-sharing option, head to the settings option in Strava. From there, navigate to Apps, Services and Devices then click on Health. Next hit the plus sign and tap connect – then you should be on a page which lays out all the data-sharing options in full.
