Yahoo Mail gets Dropbox integration to rival Gmail’s Drive

Yahoo Mail users can now email much larger files to contacts thanks to the newly announced integration of the cloud-based Dropbox storage service.

From today, users of the popular webmail client can sync up their Dropbox accounts and choose to share files already saved on the cloud.

Users can also send attachments larger than 25MB by uploading to Dropbox first, directly from the Compose page within Yahoo Mail.

The integration is very similar to Google Drive’s integration with Gmail, which allows easier exchanging of files over the cloud.

The company wrote on the ymail blog: “To send a new attachment from Dropbox in Yahoo! Mail, select the dropdown next to the paperclip icon in Yahoo! Mail and select ‘Share from Dropbox’. The Dropbox Chooser will pop up so you can select the files you want to share then see them automatically appear as attachments within the email you’re composing.

“And if you need to send a large file (>25MB), you can simply drag and drop the attachment into your email, but send it through Dropbox.”

This means time spent sending attachment-heavy emails can be minimalised by simply including a link and allowing the recipient to download the attachment from Dropbox at their leisure.

As well as easy access to their Dropbox files while sending email, ymail users can also save attachments they receive directly to their Dropbox account.

The blog added: “To save one or more files to Dropbox in Yahoo! Mail, open the attachment and click the ‘Save to Dropbox’ button. Save your file to the default Yahoo! Mail folder within Dropbox, or click ‘More Options’ to create and name a new Dropbox folder for your file.”

Dropbox integration is currently available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
