Xiaomi to launch first laptop in 2016

Xiaomi is working on its first ever laptop, expanding beyond its smartphone roots.
The company has already had talks with a manufacturer about producing the device, according to a Taipei Times report.
According to the article, the revelation comes courtesy of Taiwanese manufacturer Inventec, who Xiaomi has reportedly conscripted to build its fledgling notebook.
“
Until now, Xiaomi’s successes have been down to its formidable surge in the smartphone sector in China.
However, according to Lee, Xiaomi’s strategy may be slightly different when it comes to notebooks.
“I am not sure if the smartphone approach will be applicable to notebooks, but I expect Xiaomi’s entry into the notebook industry to bring something new to the market,” explains the chairman.
According to Lee, the company will start shipping Xiaomi notebook computers “in the first or second quarter of next year.”

Earlier this month, Bloomberg offered up a similar report suggesting Xiaomi was eyeing the laptop sector.
Unfortunately, we still have no clues regarding what a Xiaomi notebook will look like.
The move also seems slightly odd, particularly as smartphones, not laptops, have become the dominant computing device in emerging markets.
