Xiaomi Mi5 video and renders leak

A hands-on video and renders of Xiaomi’s next flagship phone, the Mi5, have appeared online.

We seem to have been waiting for the Xiaomi Mi5 for ages. The Xiaomi Mi4 hit shops back in August 2014, and the rumours surrounding a follow-up seemed to begin shortly after.

We’ve heard nothing official on the matter in 2015, however, and the launch is now certain to occur in the new year.

Over the weekend we’ve seen the strongest signs yet that Xiaomi is readying an early 2016 launch of the Mi5. What appear to be official press renders of the phone in several colours have appeared on a Chinese website.

Just as excitingly, a brief video of the Xiaomi Mi5 in action has appeared on China’s leading social network, Weibo. The video shows a white Mi5 running through what appears to be a web page.

We’re expecting the Xiaomi Mi5 to feature a 5.2-inch display, though it’s unclear if this will have a 1080p or a QHD resolution at this point. It should run on a Snapdragon 820 CPU with 4GB of RAM, and it’s rumoured that there will be a 16-megapixel camera around back.

A 3030mAh battery, meanwhile, should keep things motoring, while we’re also expecting to see a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button.

Rumour has it that Xiaomi will unveil the long-awaited Mi5 on January 21.
