Xbox One update released to “prepare for the future”

A brand new Xbox One update has been released to “prepare for the future”.
Normally, Microsoft announcing a brand new Xbox One update is a big deal. But today, it comes with a sprinkling of disappointment but also a massive dollop of intrigue.
Rather than arriving with an array of new features for Xbox One owners, the update simply fiddles around with some behind-the-scenes tweaks and adjustments.
In fact, Major Nelson aka Larry Hryb and Xbox partner director Mike Ybarra reiterated this less than noteworthy update via social media.
“For those asking, we released a small update today. No features. Just behind the scenes stuff. #xbox”, came Ybarra’s tweet.
Hryb’s tweet was the one that really got people talking though, as he teased the update was making way for something bigger.
“Your Xbox One will get a small update today. No new features. Just a few behind the scenes changes to prepare for the future,” explained Hryb, also on Twitter.
That usually wouldn’t intrigue us too much, but it’s just the timing of both his tweet and the update seems a little too convenient.
We’re just under a week away from E3 2015, with the Microsoft press conference scheduled for 9am PST on Monday June 18.
There have been rumblings that an Xbox One UI update might be on the cards, perhaps to make it more akin to Windows 10.

Earlier today, Amazon leaked a 1TB Xbox One bundle, while earlier this month a revamped Xbox One controller with 3.5mm headphone jack was spotted on the Xbox Support site.
It might not just be about the games with Microsoft at E3 2015 after all.
TrustedReviews will be covering E3 on the ground in LA, so stay tuned for all the news as it happens.
