Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox One June update will bring external drive support.
With the next Xbox One update coming in June, Microsoft’s newest console will now be able to support external hard drives for additional storage.
This is one of the heavily anticipated features for the Xbox One by fans and owners alike.
The hard drive you want to use must be USB 3.0 compatible with at least 256GB of free space.

Once you’ve plugged your external hard drive into your Xbox One, the console will ask if you want to format it, then you’ll have the choice whether to make that your default install location for games, apps and other content.
If choose to use your hard drive as the default and happen to install so much content it fills up, the content will automatically spill over into the Xbox One internal storage.
“This is also a great way to take your content to a friend’s house and get straight into a game directly from an external drive.”
Although you’ll need to sign into Xbox Live for digitally purchased content or insert a disc to verify game ownership, you won’t need to re-download that game and its associated DLC to start playing on your friend’s Xbox One console.
This is because you can choose to copy full games and all of their content to external hard drives in one step.
The June Xbox One update will also let you display your real name to your Xbox Live friends, or whoever you choose to share it with. It won’t show up in games though, to keep your identity safe.
OneGuide and the Xbox One TV features will also arrive in the UK following the June update, along with Favourites and App Channels when you’re Xbox is connected to your TV via HDMI-in.
Of course, the June update will also let those without Xbox Live Gold memberships access popular entertainment apps like Netflix.
