Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox Adaptive Controller for gamers with disabilities

The Xbox Adaptive Controller is a new device by Microsoft designed for gamers with disabilities for whom the current lineup of controllers aren’t suitable.
It’s a really wonderful and inclusive peripheral by Microsoft for Xbox One and Windows 10, and deserves to be commended. Recently announced via Xbox Wire, we’re very excited to see how it’s received upon its release. Trusted Reviews has compiled everything you need to know about the Xbox Adaptive Controller including the latest news, release date, price and more.
Xbox Adaptive Controller – what is it?
Described as a “passion project” by the creative team at Microsoft, the Xbox Adaptive Controller is a way for players with disabilities and those with limited mobility to enjoy games in a way that’s uniquely customised for them.
This is achieved through the use of two large programmable buttons and 19 jacks which can be connected to additional buttons, joysticks and switches that can be placed in a way that’s convenient for the player. These will be sold separately, and we imagine more details will be unveiled at E3 2018.
The Xbox Adaptive Controller has been developed through partnerships with charities such as The AbleGamers Charity, The Cerebral Palsy Foundation, SpecialEffect, Warfighter Engaged and Craig Hospital. Here’s what one of them had to say about its involvement in the project:
SpecialEffect’s Founder and CEO, Dr Mick Donegan, said: “This has been a milestone collaboration for us. Our experience in helping people with complex physical disabilities to access video games has enabled us to provide not only very relevant advice about features and design, but also direct feedback from a user-centred perspective. Microsoft have a product here that has the potential to help many people globally to enjoy the magic of video games.”
