Xbox Live user numbers reach 48 million

Microsoft has revealed that its monthly users number for Xbox Live now sits at 48 million.

Although Microsoft isn’t offering any Xbox One hardware sales figures anymore, that hasn’t stopped it revealing a new milestone figure for Xbox Live members.

The monthly user number has now reached a whopping 48 million, as the company revealed in its Q2 financial report.

That figure represents a 30% yearly growth in its online user base across both Xbox consoles and PC.

The company confirmed earlier this year that December 28 saw the highest concurrent number of Xbox Live users online than any other day in the entire Xbox history.

Microsoft also revealed that its overall gaming revenue grew by 9%, while actual video games revenue soared by 57% directly linked to sales of Halo 5: Guardians and Minecraft.

However, hardware revenue has dipped, which CFO and EVP Amy E. Hood blames on a decrease in sales of Xbox 360 consoles.

Xbox isn’t officially reporting Xbox One sales figures anymore – unlike rival Sony with its PS4 – but an answer during the earnings call from EA CFO Blake Jorgensen estimated the sales figure sits at 18 million.

“It was a strong holiday season for Microsoft highlighted by Surface and Xbox,” said Microsoft COO Kevin Turner.
