X06: Exclusives & Yet More Exclusives

The second generation Xbox 360 line up is looking incredibly strong.

Usually available across the board, the next exploits in the as yet untitled Splinter Cell series will also be wowing Xbox 360 owners along with perhaps the creepiest title at the show: Bioshock (below).

Coded by 2K Games, Bioshock is a PC and Xbox 360 game only fps set in a futuristic underwater city which has slumped to Sin City levels of depravity. Visuals are as good as anything I’ve seen and given the demo was about a man trying to club a little girl to death with a wrench it is possibly the console’s most adult game to date.

Another Xbox and Windows only release which should set the blood flowing is Alan Wake (above and below), a psychological action thriller from Remedy. Set in luscious countryside and delivering some truly stunning lighting effects it added to an increasingly mature second generation line up.

From Microsoft itself is ‘Marvel Universe Online’ which is developed by Cryptic Studios, the team behind ‘City of Heroes’. This is a surprising union since Marvel actually sued Cryptic for what it saw as character copying in 2004. The union however will bring together both groups’ characters in an MMORPG title which will feature literally hundreds of recognisable superheroes.

Finally, there is the return of an old classic: Banjo Kazooie. Rare is handling the development and Banjo, Kazooie and Gruntilda amongst others will all be reunited for their debut in high definition.

Of course, by nature, Microsoft Live Arcade is exclusive in its own right and here the company dropped on us two classics for those who like their content downloadable. Sensible World of Soccer will complete a lethal line of footy titles on the console when it is launched in Q1 next year with a choice of either the original graphics or updated HD ones while classic beyond classic’s Doom has been made immediately available.
