WWDC 2013: No iPhone 5S or iPad mini 2 launch expected

Apple is not expected to launch the next-generation iPad Mini 2 or iPhone 5S at next month’s WWDC.

According to a well trusted source, Apple won’t reveal the iPad Mini 2 or iPhone 5S at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, instead choosing to focus on iOS 7.

Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, who already has a proven track record with Apple predictions, said Apple enthusiasts won’t see iPad or iPhone hardware showcased during the WWDC keynote.

“Don’t expect an iPhone or iPad at WWDC,” wrote Dalrymple.

Apple’s senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Phillip Schiller, has already hinted that iOS 7 will play a key role in this year’s WWDC.

“We can’t wait to get new versions of iOS and OS X into [developers’] hands at WWDC,” said Schiller.

However, despite strong rumours that Jony Ive is looking to completely redesign iOS 7, Dalrymple suggests it won’t be quite as drastic an overhaul as many are expecting.

“Personally, I don’t think Apple will take it as far as what some might think. The way I envision iOS 7 is more of a modernisation of the look and feel of the operating system. Kind of like what Apple did with OS X over the years.”

Mobile OS and hardware aside, Dalrymple has cause to believe Apple will introduce new Mac hardware during the WWDC keynote on June 10. He tips the iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini will all get upgrades, and Apple should also showcase the long-awaited Mac Pro redesign.

All of the OS X devices will run the OS X 10.9 update that Apple will reveal during WWDC, says Dalrymple. He predicts that the new version of OS X will feature further integration with the iCloud and improved synchronicity with iOS devices.
