World Awaits Halo 2 Touchdown

Game on Oxford Street in London will be opening at 11pm tonight to enable eager gamers to be the first to get their hands on the sequel to the Xbox classic.

As long awaited game goes, Halo 2 is pretty much up there with the classics such as Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, which itself is just days away. Right now, gamers are salivating at the prospect of getting their hands on the sequel to the most popular and best Xbox game ever.

In London, Game, on Oxford Street, is bracing itself for big queues when it open at 11pm tonight so hardcore fans can get hold of a copy as soon as humanely possible. I won’t be joining the heaving throng however, as I was fortuante that a copy of the two-disc special edition popped through my letter box last Saturday. As we’ll be doing our own full review very soon I won’t give too much away, but suffice to say that fans won’t be disappointed.

Halo 2 will also be launching tonight across Europe with movie-premier style celebrations. It will be available in eight languages (traditional Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish) and will be distributed in 27 countries.

“With more than 1.5 million copies already preordered in the US, day-one sales of ‘Halo 2’ look to herald the biggest 24 hours in entertainment retail history,” said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of worldwide publishing and marketing for Xbox at Microsoft Corp. “By the end of this week the world will be playing ‘Halo 2’ — and with our Xbox Live online service, fans will literally be banding together across the globe to fend off Covenant invaders.”

Made exclusively for Xbox, “Halo 2” has an estimated street price of €59.99/£39.99 While supplies last, a limited edition two-DVD set that includes the game and bonus content such as “making of” footage, deleted scenes and commentary from the development team will be sold for €64.99/£44.99 while supplies last.
