WOMAD to get the Bowers & Wilkins sound treatment

Bowers & Wilkins has announced it will unleash hi-fi quality sound on WOMAD festival goers with its unique Society of Sound stage.

Marking the first time Bowers & Wilkins has launched a stage partnership, the WOMAD Society of Sound stage will be kitted out with the company’s Sound System speaker stacks.

The aim is to offer a more rewarding sound experience for the festival attendees with the stage presenting a series of engaging talks on audio pioneering, some special live performances from the likes of Beardyman and David Holmes.

The Sound System speaker stacks are designed especially for festival venues and is aimed at making the Bowers & Wilkins experience available to more people.

Although concerts and live events are responsible for some of our most treasured musical memories, all too often something is missing from the experience: sound quality. While traditional PA systems deliver awesome power and volume, they tend to lack the detail and realism you’d expect from a great hi-fi system,” said a Bowers & Wilkins spokesperson to Trusted Reviews.

“It’s a problem. And it got us thinking. What if we could take the hi-fi experience and scale it up for a festival audience? Could we make a PA system that combines the subtlety and range of a top quality hi-fi speaker with the power to deliver that sound to thousands of people? What would that sound like? More importantly, what would it feel like? We wanted to find out. From that idea, the Bowers & Wilkins Sound System was born. “

WOMAD is just the first festival to have the Bowers & Wilkins Sound System stack speakers, but the aim is that these will eventually revolutionise the festival experience across the board.

“We want music lovers to think about how they listen to music, particularly in live environments. We’re hoping that ‘Sound System’ will revolutionise the listening experience and prompt more festivals to think about reproducing audio as the artists intended it to be heard.”
