Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade details leak

An update to take existing Windows Phone handsets to version 7.8 is due in the next few weeks, according to leaked details seen briefly on the Italian Windows Facebook page.

The now-deleted information was spotted by BetaNews, which did a rough translation and says that the Windows Phone 7.8 update will be released shortly after Windows Phone 8 devices appear on the market. Those are due in early November so on this basis, BetaNews thinks the upgrade for older phones may happen later in November or December.

The update will add new functions, which may keep some users happy, as many Windows Phone 8 features will not work on pre-existing legacy Windows Phone 7 devices.

Windows Phone 7.8 will reportedly contain a new Start screen, the calendar sharing function called Rooms (which is under the People Hub feature) and access to key services and content from Microsoft including the Xbox Music Store library and Xbox SmartGlass.
