Windows Holographic Platform unveiled for Microsoft Hololens

Microsoft has revealed the Windows Holographic Platform for the Microsoft HoloLens.

Instead of digging through menus, you can create you own home hub placing Windows universal apps wherever you want them.

“We focus on you, the dreamers, the creators, the Microsoft developers”, explained Microsoft’s Alex Kipman.

You can add new universal apps by bringing up the holographic start menu, including the likes of Skype.

If you are using an app with HoloLens, you can say “Follow Me” to get the content to follow you wherever you move around the room.

You can also size and scale any of the content windows to fill your wall or any space you choose with HoloLens.

Everything that was shown on stage at the Build Developers’ Conference was running on Windows 10.

That gives us hope that a developer edition of the HoloLens isn’t too far away.

Microsoft went on to show off how various other industries can utilise the HoloLens, including engineers for creating interactive 3D models and medical professionals for learning about the human body in a less intrusive way.

Then we got treated to a quick show of how HoloLens can work with the Internet of Things. They wheeled out a little robot called B-15, which could be controlled and customised with the HoloLens.

As Microsoft has mentioned before, the HoloLens doesn’t require wires, sensors or external tracking devices. It also doesn’t need a connection to your phone, tablet or PC.
